The workshop teachers:

JeniViva
has the distinct pleasure of being one of the pioneers of a new genre of dance: Gothic Bellydance. This genre blends the old with the new, adding a dark twist of Gothic elements to classic genres of Bellydance. The fruits of JeniViva’s efforts can be seen in numerous Gothic subculture magazines and websites. She also has been featured on the first ever Gothic Bellydance Dvd by World Dance New York and recently performed in and appeared on the cover of the Gothic Bellydance 2: Revelations Dvd.
JeniViva is currently working as a freelance Make-up artist for MAC cosmetics, Creative Director for the Mystical Hips Tribe and is also working on an instructional Dvd based on her creation of a Gothic Bellydance vocabulary entitled “The Serpentine Method©” The Serpentine Method© fuses movements of Vict-Oriental, Steampunk, Cabaret, Tribal Fusion, and Ritual Dance. The method is the ultimate fusion of alternative Bellydance genres with a modern theatrical twist! We are honored to have JeniViva here from NY both as an instructor and as a performer at Descent!

Sarah “Jezebel” Wood
recently uprooted her thick roots in the Boston Bellydance scene to make a home in New York. Sarah loves to nurture and cultivate the deep beauty and strength that we each hold as dancers, and she is compelled by a deep creative drive to express through movement. Before tuning in to the Tribal Fusion movement, Sarah performed free stylized choreography at Boston’s premier Gothic haunt Man Ray, and she was a Burlesque performer with the Boston Babydolls. She is a student of traditional Indian dance (studying Bharatanatyam with Lakshmi Amman) and has adventured into the shamanistic fire circle community while touring extensively with dark gypsy tribal rock band Incus. Once a member of Bostons’s Vadalna Tribal Dance Co (directed by Naraya); she is now a core member of Solstice Dance Ensemble in New York as well as instructor at Solstice Studios. We are thrilled to have Sarah back in Massachusetts for Descent as a featured instructor!
