About Aepril Schaile

Aepril is an astrologer, musician and composer, dancer and dance teacher, writer and storyteller, mythologist, animal rights advocate, and witch. She has taught astrology at Goddard College and teaches traditional, theatrical, and shamanistic Bellydance both locally and nationwide. Aepril is an AAFA  certified Group Fitness Instructor, and she holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art.

DANCE

Aepril Schaile is “an American priestess of the Dark Goddess”. Working through the ancient, and ever-evolving, art of Bellydance, she becomes Trickster, Warrior, Ghost, Storm, Grieving Mother, Killer, Seductress… Aepril’s performances invoke the archetypal Feminine creatively, shamanistically, theatrically, and compellingly.

With a background in theater and mythology, Aepril’s creativity and style of movement incline naturally toward exploring mythic themes and infusing meaning and story into her dance. Beginning with Raks Sharqi and American Cabaret as her foundation in 1996, her dancing is a dark fusion of bellydance, theater, and performance art; she brings long-time practice and study of occult science, mysticism, and yoga to her dance. Aepril is a magician of the veil; she is powerfully interactive with audiences, blending showmanship and sacred mediumship; she brings enchantment and excitement to her dance as well as psychological and spiritual intensity and signification.

Aepril is banishing the demons and placating the gods with the plutonian musicians of THE JUDGEMENT (named so for Trump XX of the tarot: the card of the resurrection of the dead and the salvation of the exiled…): gothic-classical-doom-death-folk-spirituals. At turns forbidding and vulnerable, venomous and erotic, the show has a shamanistic quality, with Aepril as the twice-born haunted medium, conducting a seance for the enraged, unrelenting spirits of the ill-fortuned and forsaken… long-dead ancestors, outraged goddesses, outcast daughters and scapegoated creatures of the sky and den–may they have a voice with the music of Aepril Schaile and the Judgement…
